September 12th, 2007

(no subject) [Sep. 12th, 2007|04:35 pm]
I'm going to try to write something here.

Burning Man this year, the topic - my first year camping with the lamplighters, a huge, amorphous, disjointed group of hard-drinking, hard-working, non-drinking, lazy, daytime, nighttime folks with more energy than anything, except for the ones with no energy at all who seemed to melt into the desert at the sound of phrases like "OK, let's set up the Army tent as a windbreak for the kitchen". There were 130 of us, at the hearsay count. We had one (Buddy) who had a (small) stroke shortly after his arrival.

I didn't shower for seven days.

This might seem disconnected, but it was Buddy who was bringing the shower. ;-) Nothing against him, since it didn't seem to matter whether I was dirty or not and my sunscreen actually kept me pretty clean - that and I'm going to give anybody suffering a stroke nothing but my utmost sympathy, love, and good thoughts. It is, probably, why I didn't so much shower.

I came in that first night and got dropped off outside the lamplighers' village, managed to get everything out, talked to snotto, who got me placed in camp, and I set everything up, then set out wandering the desert. I may have had a drink. I may have had a lot of a drink. I ran into somebody and started talking to them.

At 6AM, I staggered back to the tent and got my obligatory 3 hours of sleep.

The next morning, I awoke. To Disco calling for help, so I helped set up an army tent, and then move lamps, rig guy wires, some other stuff, and at some point I sat down, and then got up again for the procession. After the procession, we had paella - it was awesome. Then I set an alarm for 2AM and passed the hell out.

At 2 AM, my alarm went off, and I crawled out of my tent to watch the eclipse. When it was full, I went back to sleep. Now, some of you will find this old news, but as I'm laying there, thorougly dead and wishing people would stop talking, I hear somebody say "This is not a joke, the man is on fire." Of course, I put it off for a joke and went to sleep. The next morning, I looked at the man, and he had obviously been burned.

I'm going to write more later. I'm not feeling well.

In other news. [Sep. 12th, 2007|08:35 pm]
A week ago, give or take a day, I asked [info]profanecherry if she would be my partner on the journey of life, my friend, helpmate, and companion, for as far along the road as we could see and beyond, unless circumstances improbable should drive us apart, and she said that she would.
